Meet Leah!

It’s no secret that our tiger friend, Leah, is a bit of a loner. Although Leah is a strong, fierce, and capable creature, they tend to prefer living life by themselves, avoiding other tigers unless absolutely necessary. While this might work great for tigers, it would be a pretty lonely life for us humans. Sounds like our tiger friend could use some work with character traits and working on their emotional strength so they don’t just hiss and growl at every other tiger pal that walks by, right? Sure it’s great to be smart, cunning, and strong, but if you can’t communicate with others and handle your own emotions, it’s hard to find and build healthy relationships in our lives.

Parents, maybe you’ve been noticing some tiger-like traits in your third grader! This is a time of tremendous growth in your child’s social and emotional world, and sometimes it results in almost unrecognizable kiddos. But don’t worry - your child isn’t hitting the teenage years early - they’re simply processing and exploring all of these new feelings and emotions as they are suddenly aware of how much the relationships in their lives really matter to them - especially with friends and peers! Though you wouldn’t want to wrap a tiger in love and connection, your child is fully in need of that connection with you right now, so don’t shy away from it! Connection and your emotional modeling and availability are key to wading through this year of transformation together!

Pillars of Natural Learning

Trust

With true meaningful learning, we must trust that our children are inherently capable of learning everything they want and need to know when they need to know it, on precisely their own unique natural timeline.

Motivation

Without motivation, there is no meaningful learning. A child must be interested in and have a reason for learning something for it to make sense and matter to their world.

Environment

The child’s environment acts as their vehicle to the world of meaningful learning. An organized and intentionally designed learning space gives your child the opportunity to engage in creative, imaginative, and investigative child-led discoveries that create the most meaningful learning experiences of all.

Movement

The child’s environment acts as their vehicle to the world of meaningful learning. An organized and intentionally designed learning space gives your child the opportunity to engage in creative, imaginative, and investigative child-led discoveries that create the most meaningful learning experiences of all.

Connection

Adults who build meaningful connection with their children create safe and secure spaces for learning to take place. Fostering connection through observation, conversation, and engagement builds your child’s confidence and independent learning skills.

Rhythm

A child’s daily and life rhythm is key to their meaningful learning, as the security of knowing what, when, and where to expect what’s coming next allows them to safely explore the unknowns in the world around them.

Literacy

Intentionally chosen literature is a critical component of meaningful learning, as it enhances your child’s ability to connect to others, expand their ideas, and develop their own natural literacy skills.

Child-Led

It's important to drop your agenda and allow your child to lead! All of our resources encourage you to make room for and facilitate organic exploration and self-direction.
